Reaction to proposed Post Office Closure in St Andrew's Ward

Labour
Councillors for St Andrew’s ward Tina Dopson & Julie & Tim Young are objecting to the proposed closure of the Parsons Heath Branch post office in the Harwich Road area of the St Andrew’s
ward. Tina Julie & Tim can not understand why Post Office Ltd has earmarked this office for closure when it is popular, well-used and serves an area that includes many elderly persons who
have not got cars or large incomes. They intend to respond to the consultation making a very strong case for this Post Office to remain open. They have started their own petition
against the closure of this Post Office and residents can sign up by emailing Cllr Tina Dopson on: l.dopson@ntlworld.com or by phoning on 01206 795343.
The Government has stated that the Post Office must take measures to put itself on a more stable financial footing and to staunch the heavy losses it has
been making but this does not mean closing branches like Parsons Heath. Tina Julie & Tim support the government’s commitment to maintaining a national network and keeping the Post Office and
Royal Mail as a publicly owned service. They are however totally opposed to the proposals from the Conservatives and Liberal Democrats to privatise the Post Office which would force up costs
and lead to even more closures and cuts in services.
