Monday 7 June 2010 Colchester Labour holds annual meeting
Colchester Labour Party held its Annual General Meeting on Saturday. Local members and activists met to elect their group officers for the year and to discuss the out come of the General and Local Elections.
Speaking after the meeting, Jordan Newell said:
"I am delighted to have been elected as chair of our constituency party. I really appreciate the trust and support that my colleagues and comrades have placed in me. It was a privilege to represent Colchester Labour Party as their parliamentary candidate for the past two years, and I am thrilled to have the chance to be the constituency's ambassador once again".
Colchester Labour Party saw a big increase in its membership both during and after the election campaigns, and new members were among those who attended the meeting on Saturday.
"It was a pleasure to welcome our new members, many of whom share our progressive priniciples and who are astounded that Lib Dem MPs like Bob Russell are propping up David Cameron's Government," Jordan added.
“It was really refreshing to see so many younger members at our AGM. We had a really good discussion about the recent elections, Party structures and, most importantly, the future direction and agenda for the Labour Party, Colchester and the country. It bodes well for the future that so many young people want to get involved in the Labour Party at a local level as they see it as the vehicle for progressive change.” The following were elected by those present to serve as Colchester Labour Party's Executive Committee for the next year.
