Council elections leaves no overall control

Labour Councillors take their place in a shared administration on Colchester Borough Council.

After the May 1st Elections, it is all change with an outgoing Tory administration.

Labour gained 1 extra seat in Berechurch with Cllr Kim Naish (who replaced a Tory councillor).

The Lib Dems gained extra seats as well.

So with No Overall control, there had to be a shared administration to govern.

The Tory Councillors did not wish to share responsibility.

So The , Labour, Lib Dems and Highwoods Independents formed a working administration in the interests of Colchester.

Various negotiations took place, with all the Labour Councillors putting forward the priorities of the people, (for example one of the Labour priorities was the concessionary bus scheme to start at 9 instead of 9:30.)

Our very own Councillor Tim Young and Councillor Tina Dopson took up Portfolio responsibilities.

Other key Labour Councillors have taken up key roles in ensuring that the Council is effective and listening.

We look forward to the change and the difference that Labour can make working with others.
