Supporting investment in
Colchester's secondary schools

Colchester’s Labour Candidate, Jordan Newell, has joined local Labour Councillors, teachers and parents to call for Colchester Borough Council to give the go ahead to a new access road at Philip Morant School.

The proposed road is necessary to deliver important investment in local secondary education and failure to build the road could endanger around £130 million of Government investment in Colchester under the 'Building Schools for the Future' programme.

Adding his support for the proposed road, Jordan said:

"My previously stated position is that I support the £130 million of Government investment into secondary education in Colchester. This includes provision to build a new academy on the site of the Sir Charles Lucas school, a development that could not take place without this investment".

"I recently met the Schools Minister, Vernon Coaker MP, to discuss this and I understand that he has recommended the approval of the Colchester reorganisation programme and the subsequent investment", Jordan added.

The proposed link road in Norman Way has been supported by the governors and staff at Philip Morant School, who have written to the local press to express their unhappiness at the amount of misinformation that has fuelled opposition to the road (Follow this link for more information).

"I share the school's concern that a certain level of misinformation and misrepresentation has occured on the road and the whole issue of investment into Colchester's secondary schools. Unfortunately our MP has his own agenda and, in my opinion, is not acting in the best interests of Colchester's families", Jordan added.
