“Come home to Labour” says Jordan as
local Lib Dems desert their party

Colchester Labour’s former Parliamentary candidate, Jordan Newell, has issued a call to all “progressive and principled” Liberal Democrats in Colchester to join the Labour Party if they are unhappy at propping up David Cameron’s Government.

Vote Lib Get ToryMr Newell has also challenged MP Bob Russell to state his position on his party’s sell out to the Conservatives.

Many people voted for the Liberal Democrats, Labour or Green Party specifically to prevent a Conservative victory in Colchester. Now many voters feel cheated. Mr Russell has traded policy and principle for the trappings of power, becoming nothing more than a 'Yes' man propping up David Cameron's Government,” Jordan said.

Cllr Tim Young, Leader of the Labour Group on Colchester Borough Council has also called on
Lib Dems in Colchester who want to join “our progressive, left of centre, anti-Tory party” to get in touch.

The people of Colchester who voted Lib Dem - all 22,151 of them - now feel betrayed. Is it any wonder that nationally the Labour Party website is now signing up ex-Liberal Democrats at a rate of 1 every 15 seconds,” Jordan added.

The Lib Dems sold out on some of their key election promises and now support Conservative policy on replacing the Trident nuclear deterrent and on a cap on immigration.

As David Cameron scurried into Number 10 under the cover of darkness, dividing two parties and a nation, hundreds of people tore up their Lib Dem membership and joined Labour. Labour is the only real opposition, as Nick Clegg will now promote Tory policies in the House of Commons.
