Committed to all the people of our town
Shadow Communities and Local Government Secretary Hilary Benn MP has been in Colchester today (10 November), becoming the latest Member of the Shadow Cabinet to visit the town.
Mr Benn, the son of veteran former Labour Cabinet Minister Tony Benn, joined Labour Party members for a fundraising evening in Berechurch support of local Labour Councillor Kim Naish. Mr Benn took questions from an audience of over 30 Labour members and supporters on a wide range of national and local issues, including the economy, the NHS, criminial justice and the future of the Coalition Government.
Speaking in Berechurch, Hilary Benn said:
"It's great to see Colchester Labour Party in such good heart. This Tory-LibDem Government's economic policy simply isn't working and we need a different plan to get Colchester, and Britain, back to work."
Colchester Labour Party Chairman Jordan Newell added:
"I am really pleased that Hilary Benn is been able to come to Colchester tonight to show his support for our local Labour Party. Hilary’s visit shows once again the importance of places like Colchester to the Shadow Cabinet.”
