Committed to all the people of our town
For the past eighteen months, Colchester Labour Party has organised and run a series of social activities within the constituency, the pinnacle of which is our highly successful “An Evening with…” speaker series.
The events, which were started in July 2010, were the brain child of local Labour Party Chairman Jordan Newell and are part of our desire for grassroots activists to have a two-way conversation between Westminster and grassroots members.
So successful have the events been, that they now average around one per months, with leading Labour politicians travelling to Colchester to talk to large groups of members, supporters and friends. Guests also enjoy a themed meal – such as a Fish ‘n’ Chip Supper or a Curry Night.
Our high profile visitors have included Deputy Labour Leader Harriet Harman, Shadow Health Secretary Andy Burnham, Shadow Communities Secretary Hilary Benn and former Home Secretaries Alan Johnson and Jacqui Smith.
Over the last eighteen months, nearly a dozen Shadow Ministers, former Cabinet Ministers, MPs and Lords have visited Colchester – not only to take part in our evening events but also to see for themselves the contrasting picture of the positive legacy of a Labour Government and the disastrous affects of a Tory Government in our town.
Shadow Chancellor Ed Balls, Shadow Treasury Chief Secretary Rachel Reeves, Shadow Transport Secretary Maria Eagle and Shadow Cabinet Office Minister Tessa Jowell have all been to Colchester over the past few months.
Colchester Labour Party is determined to put Colchester back on the political map, after years of neglect by other main parties.
