Shadow Transport Secretary visits town

Shadow Transport Secretary Maria Eagle MP has been in Colchester today (19 September) to see the town's local transport priorities and how Tory Government cuts are impacting on the town's transport infrastructure.

 

Invited to the town by Colchester Labour Party, Ms Eagle started her visit at the site of the temporary Bus Station where she met local bus users who have been involved in the campaign for a permanent bus station to be retained in the town centre.

 

Maria Eagle at Town HallMs Eagle, the MP for Liverpool Gaston, then went to Colchester Town Hall to meet with local Labour Councillors for a briefing and discussion on local transport infrastructure, including plans to the pedestrianise of the High Street.

 

The Shadow Transport Secretary concluded her visit at Colchester North Station, where she will meet local commuters to talk about local rail services and the impact of increased tickets fares on rail users.

 

 

Speaking at the Bus Station, local Labour Party Chairman Jordan Newell said:

 

I am delighted that Maria has chosen to come to Colchester to see for herself our local transport priorities. Colchester is under going major change in its public transport provision with a new bus station, park and ride and a pedestrianised High Street. Today has been an ideal opportunity for her to see those plans and hear the view of local residents.”
